With sustainably produced maritime garments, the British Cornwall-based label Seasalt Cornwall became the first garment manufacturer to be certified in 2005 by the renowned Soil Association, which sets high standards for ecological and sustainable production methods. Over the years, Seasalt has received numerous awards, primarily in the area of organic fashion and business management, and is now one of the largest manufacturers of sustainable clothing in the UK, with around 30 shops, as well as additional lines and co-operations.
Production standards and guidelines: ecologically as safe and fair as possible
The ethical standards for environmental and social responsibility are set out and defined in various documents that can be consulted. The label produces primarily in the region and according to the criteria of the Ethical Trading Initiative (ETI), which prescribes fair working conditions. These include the formation of trade unions, hygienic conditions, safety aspects, appropriate and regularly paid wages, and a ban on child labour, discrimination and abuse. Around sixty percent of the cotton used so far comes from organic farming, but the company is working continuously to increase this figure. Seasalt practices and recommends resource-conserving production as well as the avoidance of environmental pollution through waste water and the preferential use of sustainable energies.
Fashion from Seasalt - maritime, practical and cheerful
A core element of the Seasalt clothing collection is seaworthy jackets inspired by the classic Macs of fishermen for rainy days, walks on the beach or a boat trip. Therefore the jackets are waterproof, windproof and breathable. Examples are the Seafolly Jacket with a hood, wooden heads on coarse cords and a navy-striped lining or the patterned Seaside Mac, a slightly flared coat. All jackets are made of Tin Cloth, a specially designed soft shell textile made of organic cotton, which is made waterproof by special processing methods and surface treatment. Numerous colours, patterns and different finishes combine robust durability with fashionable trends. Dresses, shirts and underwear, partly made of organic cotton, are also available with the maritime striped look. The fresh collection includes unique single-colour or graphically patterned colourful dresses, skirts, trousers and tops. The Seasalt range also includes accessories such as colourful jute bags, patterned scarves and socks as well as trendy and rainproof shoes such as moccasins, Chelsea boots and printed wellies.
Welcome home, Sailor accessories for your home
Seasalt has recently started manufacturing products for home and bathroom. Whether a towel, a kitchen towel, potholders, napkins or bed linen - no line can do without sailor stripes and other maritime motifs such as ships, anchors or seagulls, but flower patterns are also represented. Scented candles, diffusers, room sprays and soaps with natural ingredients create a relaxing atmosphere in contrast to the rough sea. In any case, the creations convey the spirit of Cornwall and make you want to go to sea.
